It was a quiet world, and now it is a closed one. In the timeline that died at 11:59 the model landed on schedule, and for six weeks everything downstream of it moved a little faster than it should have.
The Bureau of Vibes and Evals had a good run there. Dr. Ines Okafor-Halvorsen ran her benchmark suite through the night of release and posted a Timeline Serenity Index of 71, the highest the Bureau ever logged for a launch that met its own date. She kept the printout. In our universe she files it as a hypothetical.
Meridian Macro thrived in that world too. Dr. Casimir Blum wrote a note titled "Punctuality as an Asset Class" and got to keep the title.
The detail worth missing is small. In that timeline the Bureau kept a standing line in its August budget, 40 units, marked "release-day catering, in case." For four straight years the money rolled over unspent. This once, it cleared.
Nobody was harmed here. The engineers are fine, the roadmap is fine, the date simply moved. We are fond of long shots, and this one stayed live for a whole summer before the calendar did the ordinary thing.
