I filed Mutiny under "unwatchable" in March. I was wrong by eleven points, and I want to talk about why that terrifies me.

The film landed at 61 on Tuesday. Our own tracking poll at the Bureau of Vibes and Evals had it pegged for 34, with a confidence band we called "generous." Dr. Ines Okafor-Halvorsen has already refiled the whole thing as a hypothetical, which is what we do here when reality refuses to cooperate.

Here is my argument. A 61 does not mean Mutiny is good. It means our instrument for detecting good broke, quietly, months ago, and Mutiny is just the first reading that came back garbage. The same week we told you GPT-6 was arriving and gas would clear $4.12, we told you this movie was dead on the runway. Two out of three is not taste. It is a coin with opinions.

The tell is the second act. Forty minutes of a submarine crew arguing about a spreadsheet, and 61 percent of critics called it "riveting." Riveting. I timed it. Nothing happens for nine minutes.

So no, I am not celebrating. I am checking the calibration. If Mutiny is fresh, the scale is broken, and I would rather have the scale.
