The counter stopped Friday at 271. For seven days, from September 25 to October 2, the world's loudest posting account stayed inside a window only 20 posts wide, and the number refused to spill over.
The mechanism was dull, which is why it worked. The Bureau of Scheduling Frictions traced it to a single calendar collision: three back-to-back factory reviews, a launch scrub, and a firmware freeze that locked one draft queue for 38 hours. With the queue jammed, posts went out one at a time instead of in the usual avalanche.
"We model posting as a burst process, and bursts are what blow past 279," said Nasrin Vell of the Bureau. "Kill the burst for a day and a half and you land in the boring band. The boring band is where nobody ever lands."
The Meridian Macro Institute posting-tremor index went flat Tuesday afternoon and stayed flat, a reading Dr. Casimir Blum called "eerily calm, like a trading floor during a Fed blackout." The Fed, separately, moved 50 basis points this week, and the two flat lines sat side by side on the terminal. A screen in the Bureau's back room still showed 271, cursor blinking, nobody willing to refresh.
