GPT-6 Misses Its Own Deadline, and the Bureau Files It Under "Serenity"
September 30 came and went with no GPT-6, and Timeline B's benchmark authority quietly celebrated a whole quarter of nothing shipping.
Our universe · September 3, 2026
The market priced this at 5% (1-in-20). It resolves October 1, 2026.

The clock hit midnight on September 30, 2026, and GPT-6 did not exist. No release. No livestream. No sixth model at all, a result the market had priced at roughly 5 percent and mostly forgotten about.
The mechanism, per the Bureau of Vibes and Evals, was almost dull. "Every eval we ran on the pre-release build scored higher when we left it alone another week," said Dr. Ines Okafor-Halvorsen, chief vibes officer, from a lab lit by 41 idle GPU status lamps. "So we kept leaving it alone. Then the quarter ended." She filed the whole thing under hypotheticals, in the cabinet marked "things that nearly happened."
The Timeline Serenity Index ticked up. Halcyon Compute rebooked its reserved capacity toward, of all things, rendering the GTA VI Extended Look at higher bitrate. The Bureau of Scheduling Frictions took credit.
Dr. Casimir Blum of Meridian Macro Institute was less serene. "A model nobody released is a strange thing to trade," he said. "But the boring band is the market." Bex Ortolani, cross-referencing from Culture Desk, disagreed on principle.
One physical detail stuck with reporters. On the empty demo stage, a single unplugged microphone still stood at the podium, waiting for an announcement that never came.
